Fix Error 1721 in Windows 7, Vista and XP

Error 1721 may occur when you try to uninstall a program using the “Add or Remove Programs” or “Uninstall a Program” dialog box. This error occurs due to internal corruption in the operating system files. Usually running a registry cleaning scan to fix corrupted areas of the operating system is the right way to fix Windows error 1721 in Windows 7, Vista and XP.

The error is basically a result of problem with Windows Installer package. The Windows Installer is a tool used to install, uninstall and repair the most programs on your computer. Let us discuss a few things that helped a lot of people who facing the similar issue.

Re-register Windows Installer

In order to remove the programs on your computer, Windows Installer must be in a healthy state. If its installation is corrupted you may receive error 1721 in Windows 7, Vista and XP during the program removal process. Simply re-registering its component files would solve your problem.

Reboot your computer.

Press F8 key and select “Safe Mode with Networking” option.

Press ENTER.

Click Start | All Programs | Accessories.

Right click “Command Prompt” and select “Run as Administrator”.

Type the following commands one by one while pressing ENTER after each command separately:

msiexec /unregister

msiexec /regserver

exit

Repair Windows Installer

The best way to repair Windows error 1721 is to remove the junk registry entries and repair the corrupt information stored in Windows Installer registry paths.

First of all, you need to download a good Registry Cleaner software. Then you will start a full registry scan and fix the problems found inside Windows Installer registry paths. After scanning Windows registry through registry repair software you will simply reboot your system.

Run System File Checker

The System File Checker (SFC) can help in resolving error 1721 as it, by its nature, scans the system files for corruption and replaces them with their original versions. This requires you to have the Windows Installation DVD ROM for continuing.

Insert Windows installation disc that you have.

Click Start | Run.

Type “SFC /ScanNow” and press ENTER.

Restore the System

By restoring the state of your system to an earlier date, error 1721 may not appear in Windows 7, Vista and XP. There is a tool called System Restore which we have to use in this procedure.

Click Start | All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | System Restore.

Click Next.

Select a restore point on which no error 1721 was appearing.

Click “Restore my Computer” and follow the simple instructions on your screen.

Disable Real-Time Protection of your Antivirus Protection

The Real-Time Protection refers to a feature of your antivirus which continuously scans the files processed by active programs. The Real-Time Protection of your antivirus may be conflicting with Windows Installer and thereby causing error code 1721 in your Windows 7, Vista or XP.
